Ten persons were arrested today in the Zeilsheim camp for displaced Jews following a said by more than 100 American military policemen searching for black market goods, but only a small amount of illegal goods was found.
The 185 Jewish residents of the Bavarian town of Neurnburg Vorm Wald were apprehensive today following the conviction of Nathan Rubenstein, a displaced Jew, who was arrested for beating a German last month during the exhumation of the bodies of concentration camp victims from a mass grave. The Jews fear that Rubenstein’s conviction will set a precedent for the arrest and trial of more Jews on the complaint of any German in the town.
Rubenstein, who is 20 years old, was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment. At the trial he admitted beating the German, pleading that he had become extremely excited when he discovered a corpse which he believed to be his brother. The sentence has been appealed to the AMG legal division at Munich.
