Armed Jews Raid Arab “defense” Organization in Jaffa; Remove Leaflets

Four Jews armed with submachine guns raided the headquarters of the Najjada, Arab “defense” organization, in Jaffa, it was reported here today. The raiders searched the premises and carried off a quantity of leaflets.

The English language “Palestine Post” today reports that the Irgun Zvai Leumi and the Stern Group have decided to halt their anti-British activities during the period of the World Zionist Congress.

The residents of the Machne Yehuda quarter of Jerusalem, which was the scene of two battles between extremists and police last week, have presented a memorandum to the local district commissioner requesting that he move the police barracks in that section elsewhere.

During the clashes, the memorandum states, a hail of machine gun and rifle bullets were loosed indiscriminately by the police and endangered the lives of the inhabitants of the area. It demands an investigation of last week’s events, declaring that many of the bullets were aimed at Jewish homes.

TRIAL OF JEWISH YOUTHS ADJOURNED WHEN ARAB WITNESS DISAPPEARS

The trial of two Jewish youths arrested Sept. 13 and charged with attempting to rob the Ottoman Bank in Jaffa and carrying weapons opened here today.

Shortly after its opening, the proceedings were adjourned indefinitely when the prosecution’s only eye witness, an Arab official of the bank, failed to appear. The attempt to rob the bank was made by 14 Jewish youths, one of whom was killed and eight captured by police and an Arab mob.
