George Backer,president of the American ORT Federation and the World ORT Union, sailed last night on the Queen Elizabeth for Europe where he will direct the expansion of trade schools conducted for Jewish refugees and displaced persons by ORT. He was accompanied by Dr.David Lvovitch, vice president of the World ORT Union.
Mr. Backer’s prinoipal taek will be to arrange for the integration into the ORT program of the vocational training projects supported heretofore by the Joint Distribution Committee. These projects were resently turned over to ORT with a minimum grant of $2,000,000 for 1947.
