A Jewish delegation from Hungary, which will include representatives of the Jewish community of Rumanian Transylvania, which was under Hungarian rule during the war, has been invited by the French occupation authorities to visit their zone of Germany to claim property of Hungarian Jews taken to the Reich by the Nazis, it was reported here today from Budapest.
(One section of the Hungarian “gold train” captured by the U.S. army in the last days of the war is in the French zone, it was recently revealed by a JTA correspondent in Vienna. The train contains several million dollars worth of valuables stripped from Hungarian Jews by the Nazis. The American-held part of the train is being turned over to the Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees, but there had been no announcement of what disposition the French authorities plan to make of the section in their jurisdiction.)
