Resolutions calling on the U.S. Government to utilize unused war-time immigration quotas for the admission of displaced persons and urging the U.S. representative at the United Nations to take the lead in securing Jewish representation there when the Palestine question is discussed were adopted by the two-day third annual convention of the American Association of English-Jewish newspapers, which has just concluded here.
The assembled editors and publishers protested the British policy of delay and repression in Palestine and urged the British Government not to impose martial law in the Holy land. The association also went on record in support of the $170,000,000 U.J.A. campaign and pledged the full editorial and news resources of its member papers to the drive.
The association extended congratulations to two of its members, Irving Rhodes of the Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle and Ben Neustadt of the Ohic Jewish Chronicle, on their 25th anniversaries as publishers. Philip Slomovits, editor of the Detroit Jewish News, was re-elected president for a third term. Other officers are Robert Gamzey of the Inter-Mountain Jewish News of Denver, first vice-president; Albert W. Golomb of the American Jewish Outlook of Pittsburgh, second vice-president; Mr. Rhodes, secretary; Leo H. Frisch of the American Jewish World of Minneapolis, treasurer. In addition to the officers, the following are members of the executive committee: Joseph G. Brin of the Boston Jewish Advocate; J.I. Fishbein of the Jewish Sentinel of Chicago; Mr. Neustadt and Eli Jacobs of the Jewish Review of Buffalo.
