Czech Premier Assures Jews Restitution, Rehabilitation Program Will Be Carried out

Czechoslovak Premier Klement Gottwald today assured a delegation of Jews from Bohemia and Slovakia that the restitution of property to Jews and other Jewish rehabilitation measures will continue to be carried through by the Government.

Gottwald also pledged that in doubtful cases involving the return of property to Jews, special investigating committees including Jewish representative will be appointed to consider the dispute. The Jewish leaders will be received by President Eduard Benes within the next few days.

Dr. Procop Drtina, Minister of Justice, has received Ernst Frischer president of the Council of Jewish Communities, and Otto Wehle, secretary-general of the Council, and promised that the provisions of the restitution law will be enforced in the case of Emil Beer, the Jewish industrialist, whose factory was confiscated by the government following a strike by his employees the charged him with participating in the “Germanization” of Czech industry. Earlier, Wehle presented the Council’s official view on the matter to a parliamentary investigation committee which is in Warnadorf, the sits of the Factory.
