The American Jewish Conference will act on proposals for the establishment of an over-all organization to succeed the Conference, at its fourth session, which will be held in Washington during the Labor Day weekend, it was announced here today.

This program was approved by the Interim Committee of the Conference at an all-day session at Hotel Biltmore this week, during which the committee voted provisional acceptance of a report of its Committee on Future Organization, outlining the scope and purpose of the new organization, and the principles of its structure and operation.

The report, submitted by Dr. Maurice N. Eisendrath, chairman of the committee was debated for more than seven hours. Most of the proposals were accepted but a number of minor provisions, having to do with procedure and not with principle, were sent back to the committee for further study with instructions to submit the report to the Interim Committee in final form within 30 days. At that time, it is planned to make the proposals public.

The Committee on Future Organization was authorized to begin negotiations with national organizations looking to their adherence to the new organization, on the basis of the preliminary report.

The decision to hold the fourth session of the Conference in September was based on the fact that it is believed that the committee will have concluded its negotiations with the national bodies and representative community organizations by that time. Moreover, the fourth session will be timed for the meeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations which may have the Palestine question before it.

Dr. Eisendrath’s committee, which includes leaders of national organizations and communities, consists of the following: Dr. Ira Eisenstein, Judge Harry M. Fisher, Arnold R. Ginsburg, Harold J. Goldenberg, Frank Goldman, Isaac Haller, Louis Lipsky, Rabbi Joseph H. Lookstein, Mrs. Albert J. May, Rabbi Irving Miller, Henry Monsky, Stanley C. Myers, Judge Simon H. Rifkind, Judge Morris Rothenberg, Samuel Rothstein, Louis Segal, Ezra Z. Shapiro and Dr. Stephen S. Wise.
