Hans Diebov, former commendant of the Lodz ghetto, was today sentenced to be hanged following his conviction by a Polish Peoples Court here on charges of having tortured and murdered thousands of Jews.
Earlier testimony established that of the 375,000 Jews who passed through the ghetto, only 877 survived. Except for some 16,000 from Vienna, Czechoslovakia, Germany and Luxembourg, they were all from Poland. It was also revealed that before the Jews were murdered, they were forced to produce some 25,000,000 yards of textiles, 33,000,000 items of clothing and 4,500,000 pairs of shoes — all for the German Amry.
