Russian delegate Andrei Gromyko’s speech in the U.N. this morning calling for a bi-national state or partition in Palestine created a sensation among the Jews of Palestine.

Although official reaction from Jewish political quarters was not immediately available, the man in the street was frankly jubilant that at least one of the great powers had raised its voice for a straightforward solution of the problem. While binationalism is not popular, except with the members of the Hashomer Hatzair Party, the bilk of the Jews favor partition.

An anti-personnel bomb exploded tonight in an open-air movie in the Sarafand army base, injuring two soldiers slightly. The bomb was hidden in a gas mask in a military knapsack. Unconfirmed reports state that several explosions occurred between Hadera and Benyamina. Two Jews were reported to have been arrested in that area with Sten guns and pistols in their possession.
