An agreement between the Peruvian Government and the Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees for the admission of approximately 6,000 refugees and DP’s was announced here. At least 75 percent of the prospective immigrants must be Catholics.
The selection of immigrants will be made on the basis of conditions set by Peru. Preferred categories include technicians, professional workers, agricultural and cattle workers and domestic servants. All workers must have a labor contract before being admitted.
Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Enrique Garcia Sayan has agreed to submit to the Immigration Council in Lima a request by the HIAS for the admission into Peru of the aged parents and children of Jewish residents.
