Modern synagogues should be built in such a manner that they cannot be mistaken for churches, Prof. Franz Landsberger, Lecturer in Jewish Art at the Hebrew University, declared here at the two-day conference on synagogue building under the sponsorship of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. The parley, which concludes tonight, is being attended by some 150 delegates from Reform congregations throughout the country.

The architects, builders, artists and congregational leaders at the conference heard lectures and participated in discussions on “An American Synagogue for Today and Tomorrow” and “A New Synagogue in a Small Community.” Rabbi Jacob D. Schwarz, director of the Commission on Synagogue Activities of the UAHC, served as director of the conference.
