Peace-time conscription would be “a menace to (##)ur democracy and a threat to world peace,” Rabbi Ahron Opher, assistant to the president of the Synagogue Council of America, which embraces all rabbinical and (##)ongregational groups, declared today before the House Armed Services Committee.
Testifying at a public hearing, Rabbi Opher opposed a universal military training, urged strengthening of the United Nations as the “most effective (##)nstrument to secure peace.”
