Groups of Jews Massing at Rumanian Border En Route to Palestine Appeal for Aid

Large groups of unorganized Jewish emigrants (##)ssing at the border towns of Carei Mari and Valea Lui Mehan, ostensibly pre(##)g for a “march to Palestine,” despite repeated warnings from responsible Jewish (##)izations against going ahead with this plan, it was learned here today.

Frantic appeals for assistance have been received at the offices here of (##)al large Jewish groups. The refugees are short of food and clothing and are (##)g in makeshift houses, where several babies have already been born. A team of (##)h relief workers has left for the frontier to organize aid projects there.

It is expected that with the arrival of milder weather unorganized emigra(##) from Rumania will reach a new peak. In the Jewish quarter in Bucharest, Jews (##)e seen daily selling their belongings before setting off to join one of the (##)s leaving every day for the border.

Meanwhile, at Targu Mures, attorneys representing the local Jewish community, lodged an appeal in a Rumanian appellate court against the acquittal there of Dr. (##)yi Wanchsakovsky, formerly chief physician of the ghetto in the town. Sentenced (##)ght months’ imprisonment for allowing the deportation of sick Jews from the ghet(##) gas chambers, although he was instructed to detain them in the hospital, Wancha(##)sky appealed his sentence and was acquitted.
