Anti-semitism is Mounting in Rumania, Jewish Organizations Report to U.N. Committee

The United Nations Special Committee on Palestine ## informed today that the Jews in Rumania are living in fear of mounting anti-semitism in the country, that thousands of them exist solely on relief which they receive from the Joint Distribution Committee, and that a large number of Rumanian ## consider emigration to Palestine as the only solution to their problem.

The information was contained in a joint memorandum sent to UNSCOP by the Jewish Party of Rumania, the Zionist Organization of Rumania, the Union of Rumanian Jews and the Rumanian section of the World Jewish Congress. The memorandum emphazied that an anti-Semitic atmosphere still exists in Rumania, despite the government’s attempts to cradicate it.

The memorandum asked UNSCOP to give a hearing to a delegation of Rumanian Jews. It urged the abrogation of the British White Paper, restricting Jewish immigration to Palestine, and the establishment of a Jewish state there. A similar re## was made in a memorandum submitted to the committee by the headquarters of the would Jewish Congress, over the signatures of Dr. Stephen S. Wise, A.L. Easterman ## Maurice Porlzweig.

The sub-committee of UNSCOP which has been appointed to investigate conditions ## the displaced Jews in the camps will start its work by visiting various camps in the Munich area Saturday and Sunday. The members will leave Munich Sunday afternoon, arriving in Vienna Sunday night, and remaining there until Tuesday noon, devoting at time to examining the situation of the Jews in camps in and around the Austrian ##, in nearby assembly centers, and studying the problem posed by the thousands ## Jews moving from Eastern Europe into the United States zone in Austria.

The same afternoon the subcommittee will leave Vienna for Berlin, and leave ## Wednesday afternoon for Hanover, visiting Bergen-Belsen on Thursday and boarding plane for Geneva that evening.
