Canada today formally ratified the constitution of the International Refugee Organization with the deposit of an official instrument with Benjamin Cohen, Acting Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Canada’s contribution is 3.50 percent of the $151,060,500 first-year operational budget of the I.R.O. The ratification brings the percentage subscribed by might unreserved signatures to 68.76 percent. The I.R.O. will, by the provision of its constitution, come into existence when at least 15 states have subscribed, without reservation, 75 percent of the budget.
