A report from Geneva published today in the London Tribune warns that there “is a nasty shock coming to Britain” from the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine and that its members are said to be in unanimous agreement that the British mandate in Palestine should be cancelled.
The Tribune correspondent, Jon Kimche, a well known English newspaperman, states that there is little doubt that the U.N. will demand that Britain evacuate Palestine and abandon its interests there. He asserts that the fact-finding commission leans toward a combination of partition and federation as a solution which would create neither a sovereign Jewish or Arab state, but would establish a federation with a central authority controlling the country’s economic life.
Kimche also states that the Yugoslav delegate has “reverted to the traditional Communist opposition to Zionism” and is advocating a bi-national state, but is not supported by other delegates. The Indian and Iranian delegates are also expected to propose a minority plan.
