The fate of the 4,400 Exodus refugees will probably be settled within the next few days it was indicated here today with the an nouncement by the Foreign Office that a statement on the final destination of the visaless immigrants would be made “shortly.” The announcement gave no hint as to the nature of the forthcoming statement.
(The New York Times today reported from London that the Jews would be sent to the British zone of Germany.)
A Foreign Office spokesman today announced that British naval units at Port de Bouc, where the Exodus Jews are imprisoned aboard three ships, would engage in gunnery practice. The spokesman said that he was making the announcement in advance to head off possible unfounded rumors concerning the refugees.
