U.S. Jews Send Gift of Religious Articles to Soviet Jewry; Rabbis Greet Shipment

The first gifts of religious articles sent by the Jews of the United States to Soviet Jewry left here this week on the S.S. Sergei Kirov, the American Jewish Council to Aid Russian Rehabilitation announced today. The shipment consisted of two sefer torahs and a substantial number of tfillen, chumashim, sidurim, thilems, machzarim, tzitzis and taleisim. In addition to the religious articles the shipment also included penicillin.

The Council released the names of many prominent rabbis who signed a greeting to the Soviet Jews on the occasion of the shipment. They included Rabbi Joseph H. Lookstein, president of the Rabbinical Council of America. Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Dr. Israel Goldstein, Dr. David de Sola Pool and Rabbi Louis I. Newman.
