The role of the U.S. Army in caring for displaced Jews in Europe was praised in a statement released here today by Dr. Emanuel Gamoran, educational director on the Union of American Hebrew Congregation, who recently returned from a tour of Europe and Palestine.
Terming the Army’s accomplishments “one of the noblest pieces of work which America performs in Europe,” Dr. Gamoran said that credit must be given to Generals Dwight D. Eisenhower, Joseph T. McNarney and Lucius D. Clay, who are “responsible for the humans and sympathetic treatment accorded by the Army to Christian and Jewish refugees.”
