Lehman Urges Religion Be Motivating Force Behind American Aid to Europe

Declaring that “religion’s challenge to peace and protherhood remains largely unheeded,” former Gov. Herbert H. Lehman, speaking here today from the pulpit of Central Synagogue to a nationwide radio audience over the dessage of Israel program, called upon Americans of all faiths to make “the spirit of religion the major motivation force behind our endeavors to succor suffering ?manity.”

Mr. Lehman was the guest lay speaker on the American Jewish Cavalcade program, under the auspices of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, oldest organized Jewish religious body in America comprising 350 Liberal Jewish congregations in 47 states. The American Jewish Cavalcade is dedicating the months of November, December and January to a religious revival endeavor. More than 60 Reform rabbis will visit scores of communities, where in collaboration with local congregations a “dynamic religious coordination program” will be instituted.
