The decision by the U.N. General Assembly on the partition of Palestine will be considered in relation to the 1948 overseas aid programs of American Jewry at the national conference of the United Jewish Appeal to be held in Atlantic City, Doc. 12-15, it was announced today by Henry Morgenthau Jr., general chairman.
The conference will consider the following factors in formulating a program for next year: 1. The extent of American Jewry’s participation, together with governments, in financing the transfer of 150,000 homeless Jews to Palestine; 2. The increased resources required to meet the needs of the Jews in the DP camps as a result of reduction of intergovernmental assistance; 3. The need for greater resources for reconstruction of the Jewish communities in Europe, and 4. The possibilities for larger immigration to the United States.
Meanwhile, Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, national co-chairman of the UJA, who returned recently from a survey of conditions in Europe, reported that more then 32 percent of the Jewish women between the ages of 18 and 45 in the U.S. zone in Germany were either expectant or nursing mothers. He said that there are now 10,000 Jewish children in the DP camps under one year of age.
