Reports from Beirut and Amman, capital of Transjordan, indicate that King Abdullah of Transjordan is vitally interested in taking over control of the projected Arab part of a partitioned Palestine.
Political circles point out that the reports tend to explain Abdullah’s known oppositon to plans of the Palestine Arab Higher Committee for forming a temporary Arab government. The dispatches also stated that Arab Palestine would be placed under Abdullah’s son, Emir Talal, in the postion of viceroy.
A dispatch from Damascus stated that Bechari el Khoury, President of Syria, reviewing 5,000 troops on maneuvers about 30 miles from the Palestine border, yerterday said that the Syrian Army would defend the “intergrity” of Arab Palestine to the “last man.” Meanwhile, Arab League secretary-general Abdul Rahman Azzam Pasha, who visited in Damascus for nearly a week, left there by air for Saudi Arabia to continue his discussions on Palestine with the heads of the Arab states.
The Higher Committee has issued an appeal to “save Palestine” and called for additional funds. The first contribution in the new drive was a house in Jerusalem donated by an Amin Husseini.
