Several thousand persons packed the Habima. Theatre here, one of the largest auditoriums in the city, while an estimated 10,000 other men and women jammed the surrounding streets as an emergency mobilization drive was launched tonight for $2,000,000 for security measures in connection with the projected Jewish state.
David Ben Gurion, Jewish Agency chairman, who was unable to enter the theatre for a half-hour as the crowd cheered him, told the meeting that “even if the U.N. votes a Jewish State, the final decision will be made in Palestine.” The next eight or nine months will be “crucial,” he said, adding that “the Jewish people will be put to the test.”
