Anglo-jewish Publishers Ask Greater Jewish Unity; Hit Excessive Publicity Material

Greater unity in the American Jewish community was urged here in a resolution adopted at the closing session of a meeting of the Association of English Jewish newspapers. The publishers pledged full support to the United Jewish Appeal and hailed President Truman for U.S. support of partition and the recently issued report of the Committee on Civil Rights.

In another resolution, the Association deplored the alleged “waste of large sums of money” through “needlessly excessive publicity releases by national Jewish organizations and institutions “and called for a revision of publicity policies.

Philip Slomovitz, editor of the Detroit Jewish News, was re-elected president of the Association. The following vice-presidents were chosen: Albert W. Golomb, of the Pittsburgh Jewish Outlook; Ben Neustadt of the Columbus, Ohio, Jewish Chronicle; and Eli Jacobs of the Buffalo Jewish Review. Robert S. Gamzey of the Intermountain Jewish News was named secretary and Leon H. Frisch of the Minneapolis American Jewish World, treasurer. The executive committee consists of these officers plus Irving Rhodes of the Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle; Jack Fishman of the Chicago Jewish Sentinel and Joseph Brin of the Boston Jewish Advocate.
