The trial of Xavier Vallat, former Commissioner for Jewish Affairs in the Vichy Government, opened here before the High Court. He is charged with responsibility for the passage of anti-Jewish legislation and subse##nt persecution of French Jews, among others.

The anti-Jewish phases of the general indictment will be heard today. During the selection of the jury, Vallat objected to the presence of a Jew on the panel. The Jew, M. Triggel-Valermont, was one of the leaders of the French Resistance.
