Settlement Sends out S.o.s.; Arabs Kill Jewish Policemen Rushing to Aid

An S.O.S. message has been received here by the ##h from the settlement of Halutza, in the Negev, which was attacked by a strong ##arty late this evening. One settler has been killed and several wounded.

The message stated that three Jewish settlement policemen rushing to the aid of ##leaguered colonists were killed by a detachment of Arab guerrilla cavalry ##ed on camels. Further details concerning the action at Halutza, which was ##ed a month ago, were not immediately available because the only telephonic communications system between Jerusalem and the Negev was disrupted when the lines to ### Eshel were cut.Special Haganah squads today set out from other settlements in the Negev to ##r the water pipeline serving the recently-established 14 colonies in the desert, ##ipeline was cut in a number of places last night and the colonists are threaten##th a severe water famine.A Haganah unit last night surprised an Arab band near the Yarkon River, be## Petach Tikvah and Ramath Ayim, which was preparing to carry out a raid on ##by Jewish settlements. Two British police sergeants and a Jew were shot and wounded in a crowded ##salem street today, it was officially announced. The incident occurred on King ##ge Avenue, one of the city’s major arteries.

GOVERNMENT DEAF TO JEWISH PLEAS FOR REMOVAL OF ARAB LEGION

The Jewish authorities are encountering no more sucess than in the past in {SPAN}##ir{/SPAN} renewed endeavor to persuade the British to send the Arab Legion back to Transjordan, it was reported here. According to the account, two Arab Legion trucks caught up with and passed ### convoy on the road, then stopped.
