Nazi Diplomats Go on Trial Before U.S. Court; Charged with Plotting to Kill Jews

Charged with plotting “the final solution of the Jewish problem” in 1942 under the Hitler regime, twenty-one top ranking Nazi civil officials and diplomats were today brought to trial before a U.S. war crimes court. ?e trial opened with a five-hour speech by Brigadier General Telford Taylor, chief American prosecutor.

Gen. Taylor said he would prove that these officials, who include Baron Ernst on Weizsaecker, former German ambassador to the Vatican, participated in a meeting ?t which it was decided to exterminate millions of Jews in Europe. “These are the ?en who transformed the Nazi plans and ideologies into action,” Gen. Taylor told ?he court.
