Formation of a national Fair Employment Practices Committee, as an agency of the Labor Department, was suggested yesterday by President Truman in his annual budget message to Congress.
The President asked Congress to appropriate $1,000,000 to finance the activities of the anti-discrimination agency. He said that the commission was needed to “establish a federal program for elimination of discriminatory employment practices based on race, religion, color or national ancestry.”
