Council for Judaism Will Seek New Methods in Conducting Relief for Jews Abroad

Leaders of the American Council for Judaism all seek new methods in the present system of Jewish relief operations as a result of a resolution adopted at the Council’s annual conference held here this week, in which dissatisfaction was voiced with “the present commingling in the United Jewish appeal of funds for clearly humanitarian purposes with others that are expended for political and foreign governmental purposes.”

The resolution instructed the president and executive committee of the American council for Judaism “together with other like-minded individuals or groups” to negotiate with relief agencies, and in particular with the Joint Distribution Committee, for “the establishment of procedures or a separate fund that will take possible the widest and most generous support of those in distress.”

“In the event the Council should find the no satisfactory method available in the United Jewish Appeal or its constituents which would enable contributions to be made in accordance with the above conditions, the officers and executive committee shall so notify Council members and the executive committee shall, ?t that time, propose a plan whereby contributions can be made through the American Council for Judaism for purposes described above,” the resolution stated.

The Council for Judaism parley also adopted a resolution urging “our bellow American of Jewish faith to withhold all support from and to repudiate all Zionist efforts to maintain Zionist camps or any other youth training programs assigned to prepare American youth for emigration into Palestine or to cause them to segregate themselves in this country for furthering Political Zionism.”

Another resolution requested American Jews to be vigilant against all attempts to create any over-all authority claiming to represent all Jews in secular and political matters. “We urge them not to retreat from the traditional position of American of Jewish faith, that no person and no organization can speak for all was,” the resolution said. “We repudiate the assumed authority of the American wish Conference, (now the American Jewish Assembly) now planned as a permanent body or of any other organization claiming to represent all American Jews in political matters, domestic or foreign.”
