The Jewish Agency today lashed out at the Palestine Government authorities, angrily charging that the death of seven Jewish settlement policemen near Yazur yesterday was the fault of officials who refused to permit the use of armored settlement police cars out of the neighborhood to which they were assigned.
Pointing out that the government’s threat to confiscate armored cars found outside their district forced the police unit leading the convoy yesterday to ride in an open truck where they were an easy target for Arab hand grenades and machine gun bullets, an Agency spokesman demanded liberalization of the regulations governing the use of settlement police cars. He pointed out that during the 1936-39 Arab riots the rules had been eased.
The same spokesman also pointed out that the situation of the Jews in the encircled Jewish quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem was still highly abnormal, although British troops were bringing in supplies fairly regularly.
On the Tel Aviv front, the Haganah was responsible for the hospitalization of 20 Arabs who were in a snipers post on the edge of Jaffa when the Jews blew it up. Shortly thereafter Arab “national guard” members closed off all entrances to Jaffa, presumably because of a report that the Jews were preparing to invade it.
A group of soldiers were attacked in a restaurant in Rehovoth by a number of Jewish extremists this afternoon. The soldiers, none of whom were injured, opened fire and killed one Jew.
A Hagnah unit surprised a band of Arabs preparing to leave Tarcha, near Jerusalem, to attack a Jewish quarter of the city. Several casualties were inflicted on the Arabs. Last night the Haganah lost one man in blowing up a large house near Motza, five miles from Jerusalem, from which snipers dominated the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway.
At Lifta, another suburb of Jerusalem, the Stern Group last night blew up two house from which snipers had been active. The Sternists scattered road mines behind them to prevent the police following them, In Tel Aviv, some 40 Irgunists held up the government survey office, making off with all sorts of office equipment and machinery as well as records.
SIXTEEN GERMAN EXPERTS TRAINING ARAB GUERRILLAS
Jewish sources tonight asserted that 16 German explosives experts, including three former Nazi officers, were training Arab guerrillas in the use of dynamite and the construction of landmines.
The Lydda marshalling yards were raided by a large band of Arab thieves, who ## a quantity of military equipment. Two other trains were held up during the previous 24 hours and large stores of civilian and military supplies were looted.
A joint meeting of the left-wing parties Hashomer Hatzair and Tenua L’Achdut will open tomorrow in Tel Aviv to decide upon final plans for merging. The two parties have been meeting separately to arrive at all the points of agreement necessary before the merger can take place. It is considered certain that Dr. Moshe Sneh, who recently resigned front. Jewish Agency executive and declared he would head an op- position party, will be named to the executive of the new “United Socialist Party.”
The Jewish National Council has extended greeting to representatives of the International Red Cross who are scheduled to arrive late today and has offered its fullest cooperation in all matters.
