Strong support for the European Recovery Program, to “meet the challenge to our American ideals and to our security,” was voiced yesterday by former Gov. Herbert H. Lenman, in testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on behalf of the American Jewish Committee. Gov. Lenman is honorary vice-president of the American Jewish Committee.

Governor Lehman stated that the American Jewish Committee, “has, through more than 40 years, championed civil and religious rights,” and that it has recognized that these rights “are an integral part of human rights for all people of whatever faith or color–that the security and freedom of any man depends upon the security and freedom of all his neighbors in other parts of the world. Democracy and human freedom, “he said, “are always jeopardized by economic chaos.”
