Premier Costello Assures Eire Jews Discrimination Against Minorities Will Be Banned

Premier John A. Costello today assured a deputation of the Jewish Representative Council of Eire that the government would not tolerates any anti-Jewish, activities. The delegation had expressed anxiety over recent to-Semitic remark by Irish officials. The Premier emphasized that neither his nor other administration would permit discrimination against racial and religious cities in Eire.

The Jews were particularly perturbed at a speech delivered by Michael Donnellan Parliamentary secretary to the Ministry of Finance, in which he urged that Jews Eire be prevented from buying land. Later, however, Donnellan apologized for is remarks, stressing that neither the Irish Government nor he had any Intention of limiting the rights of the country’s Jewish citizens.
