Jewish Refugee Children Baptized in Britain, Board of Deputies Meeting Hears

Because British Jews did not respond fully to peals for accepting Jewish refugee children into their homes at least 129 Jewish ##hans of some 9,300 who found haven in England since 1933 have been baptized, it ## reported here today at a meeting of the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

The children were placed in non-Jewish homes and were baptized by their ?ter parents. As of July of this year a new legal guardian, a rabbi, will be pointed for the Jewish refuges children.

The Board also adopted a resolution, recommended by the executive committee, announcing the activities of the Hebrew Legion, a force being organized in Britain ##d the U.S. to fight for the Jews in Palestine. The resolution condemned these activities of the Legion which “give the false impression that the Jews of this country are anything but loyal citizens.”

Another re solution expressed full support of the struggle of Palestine Jewry in behalf of a Jewish state and expressed “amazement” at the American reversal from Palestine partition to international trusteeship. The Palestine Government was ##ged to withdraw the Arab Legion and the Transjordan Frontier Force from Palestine ##d to open a port for Jewish immigration.

It was announced that Prof. Selig Brodetsky, president of the Board, has asked Prime Minister Clement R. Attlee to change his decision concerning a number suggestions Brodetsky recently made toward the end that when the British administration ends in Palestine the Jews will be in a position to defend themselves.

Clergy and teachers of West Hampstead, a section of fashionable Northwest London, today formed a council to combat anti-Semitism and to “foster closer relationship between Jews and Christians.” Anthony Greenwood, M.T., addressing the inaugural ##eting, said “we have formed this committee to the action because the Mosley Union movement has appeared in this borough.”
