Jiri Novacek, a Czech who denounced a Jewish friend to the Nazi occupation authorities and caused his deportation and eventual death in a concentration camp, was today sentenced to life imprisonment by a Peoples ?ourt here.

The denunciation took place in 1943. A Czech member of the military police attached to the Nazi headquarters, to whom Novacek denounced his friend, Jindrich Roundnicky, testified for the prosecution. The only reason Novacek escaped the death penalty was that several other Jews testified in his behalf, asserting that he had never done anything to injure them although he was in a position to do so during the occupation.
