Jewish Chaplain in French Army in Germany Elevated to Honorary Rank of General

The senior Jewish chaplain among the French forces ?on duty in the French zone of Germany has been elevated to the honorary rank of general, it was announced here this week-end. Previously, only the senior Catholic chaplain held a general rank.

A Foreign Office spokesman has denied reports that the government withdrew licenses for the shipment of arms and ammunition by private firms to firms to Lebanon and Syria. The spokesman said that while the situation in Palestine remains “confused” the government would not export arms to those countries, but that this policy would not interfere with contracts between private munitions makers and the Arab governments.
