Thousands Attend Celebrations for Israel in Britain France, Germany, Austria, Italy

More than 3,000 persons attended a mass meeting here today called by the Zionist Federation to celebrate the proclamation of the State of Israel, An additional 1,000 were turned away because there was no room for them in the auditorium.

Prof. Selig Brodetsky, member of the Jewish Agency executive, expressed the hope that the British Government would follow the lead of the United States and magazine the new state. He also said that he was certain that Jews throughout the world would give the same support to the Provisional Government of David Ben Gurion which they had given the Agency, a body which now loses its official status.

Berl Locker, another member of the Agency executive, stressing that the Jews Palestine were accepting the Arab League’s challenge to their independence, nevertheless insisted that the Arabs could have peace for the asking, Other speakers emphasized the ability of Israel to defend itself against the four-pronged invasion which vas launched yesterday.
