Uruguay and Nicaragua Recognize Israel; Argentine Government Asked to Follow Suit

Both the Uruguayan and Nicaraguan Governments have extended official recognition to Israel, it was reported here today. President Luis Battle Berres of Uruguay is expected to sign the recognition decree this afternoon. Guatemala granted official recognition to Israel shortly after the proclamation of statehood.

A resolution calling on the Argentine Government to grant recognition to the state of Israel was introduced today in Congress by the Radical Party. Meanwhile, ##, central representative body of Argentine Jewry, today sent a congratulatory ##to Dr. ## Weizmann hailing his election to the Presidency of the Provisional Israeli Government.
