American military officials in Austria are awaiting orders from the Army Department in Washington on the question of how to deal with representatives of Israel, it was learned here today. Meanwhile, all military personnel have been cautioned as to their activities towards Jewish displaced persons.
Army Chaplain Oscar Lifshutz emphasized today that U.S. occupation authorities are continuing their policy of neither aiding nor hindering Jewish DP’s in the U.S. zone. The proclamation of Jewish statehood has provided the refugees in Austria with a great “moral uplift,” he added.
