Approximately 35 Hachshara training farms will be exempted from the Italian Government’s ruling ordering the transfer of all Jewish DP camps from northern to southern Italy, it was announced today by the International Refugee Organization.

Meanwhile, Under-Secretary of State Count Zoppi has begun to arrange for the admission of 500 Jewish orphans in Eastern Europe to Italy, following an appeal by Dr. Rafaele Cantoni, president of the Union of Italian-Jewish Communities, and Arie Stern, Jewish Agency representative here. Attempts to have the orphans brought here from various Balkan countries were made several times during the last year before Zoppi’s decisive action was announced.

Results of the special emergency campaign for Israel–which has been under way among the Italian and refugee Jewish communities for some months with an announced goal of 100,000,000 lire–were made public today. The total sum raised to date is 155,000,000 lire, with 35,000,000 lire having originated among displaced Jews in this county, many of whom gave up food rations to contribute to the special drive.
