A resolution stating that for the time being, the Union of American Hebrew Congregations should not change its name was adopted here last night at the closing session of a two-day meeting of the organization’s executive board.

Members of the board expressed enthusiasm for a plan to merge the Hebrew Union College and the Jewish Institution of Religion, but decided to await the outcome of further negotiations before taking any action.

The board also adopted a unanimous resolution expressing solidarity with the state of Israel, although it reserved its constitution-approved neutrality on the “problems of political Zionism.” A message of “heart-felt salutation and a prayer that God may send the new state peace” was dispatched to Israel.
