The Rumanian government officially recognized the new state of Israel over the week-end. The action came as a result of a letter from Israel’s Foreign Minister, Moshe Shertok, on June 8th requesting recognition. Rumania is the eleventh nation to grant Israel recognition.

Nearly 3,500 needy Jewish children in Rumania will spend their summer holiday this year in nine mountain and Black Sea resorts, it was announced today by the Federation of Jewish Communities, which has worked out a special summer project with the aid of the Rumanian Government, the Joint Distribution Committee and the OSE. All transportation costs will be met by the government. The children will live in summer homes provided by the Minister of Interior and OSE, while the J.D.C. and the Federation will be responsible for financing the program.
