A report that the Export-Import Bank had “discouraged” the provisional Government of Israel from making formal application for a loan at this time is considered to have given a misleading impression, authoritative sources pointed out here today.

Very informal discussions have been going on between bank officials and representatives of the Provisional Government, “but have not even closely approached the stage where formal application might be made,” an Israeli Government official said today. “Their status has not changed in the slightest,” he emphasized.
