Israel Holds State Funeral for Col, Marcus; Will Be Buried at West Point Cemetery

A state funeral for Col. David Marcus, former New York Commissioner of Correction and U.S. here of World War II who was killed last Friday in Jerusalem where he served as head of the Haganah forces, was held today in Tel Aviv, according to information received by Mrs. Emna Marcus, the Colonel’s widow.

Mrs. Marcus declined to grant the request of the Israeli Government to have the body of her husband buried in Israel. The body will be brought to the United States and will he interred in the post cemetery at West Point with full military honors. Col. Marcus was a graduate of West Point.

The request to return the body to this country was made by the widow in accordance with Col. Marcus wishes. Services will he held in the post chapel and the coffin will be carried to the cemetery on a caisson, escorted by a cadet honor guard. The New York City government, which Marcus served as Commissioner of Correction, will also pay formal tribute to him.
