Dr. Emanuel Neumann, president of the Zionist Organization of America, announced at a press conference today that the 51st annual convention of the Z.O.A. which will be opened in Pittsburgh on July 2, will be called on “to define in clear terms the future relationship of American Zionism to the Jewish community of Palestine and the republic of Israel.”

“From broad hints dropped both in London and Washington, it is apparent that the British Government hopes to get the support of the United States and other nations to brow-beat Israel into accepting a radical revision of the settlement voted by the United Nations,” Dr. Neumann said. The British, he added, hope to achieve a drastic reduction of the Jewish state’s area and to limit the immigration of Jews into Israel.

“The Government of Israel is of course fully aware of these maneuvers and I am perfectly confident that it will refuse to be tricked or intimidated into surrendering one iota of its sovereignty or title to any of its territory,” he said. He appealed to the American friends of Israel “to keep” watch and persevere in the efforts to persuade President Truman and the State Department to stand fast by American commitments.”
