The United Nations was asked today by the British Government to control the port of Haifa and British military installations in Haifa between the time British troops leave the city and the Arab-Israeli truce ends.

A government source asserted that the Jews would gain a military advantage–and would be directly violating the Palestine truce agreement–if the Israelis were permitted to seize the military installations before the truce ended.
