Zahara Levitov, a 21-year-old girl who, as a bomber pilot, flew several missions for the Israeli Array, was killed yesterday in an air crash between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, it was reported here today. She was trained to fly in California. Also killed in the same crash was the co-pilot, Emanuel Rothschild of Ramat Gan.
An Israeli Government spokesman wanted today that the British crews of aircraft assigned to the United Nations Truce Commission would be detained if they landed in Israeli territory. He referred to the lending at Haifa airport yesterday of a British-Manned plane assigned to the U.N. mission.
The spokesman said that when the Israeli Government learned that five British planes with British crews had been placed at the disposal of the U.N., it had advised Count Bernadotte’s chief representative at Haifa that, in view of Britain’s “definitely unnatural attitude,” it could not agree to the use of British personnel for U.N. purposes in Palestine, and certainly not in Israel.
A passenger vessel arrived in Haifa harbor last night with 470 immigrants and returning Israeli residents. A number of children and infants were among those aboard.
