The establishment by order of General Lucius D. Clay of an organization to track down heirless Jewish property left by victims of the Nazi regime and to use this property for the benefit of Jews who suffered at the hands of the Nazis was announced hers today. The operating agents of this organization will be the Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Agency.
Benjamin Ferencz, a New York attorney who has been executive counsel of the American war crimes prosecution, was appointed acting director general of the new organization which will be known as the Jewish Restitution Successor Organization (J.R.S.C.). He will direct a search for unclaimed Jewish property, the proceeds of which will go to help displaced Jews in Germany, Jewish survivors emigrating to Palestine and the rebuilding of Jewish cultural and religious life.
