Jacob Ish-kishor, Veteran Zionist Leader, Dies at of 71; Founder of “chovevei Zion”

Funeral services were held here today for Jacob Ish-Kishor, veteran Zionist lender, who died at his home last night at the age of 71. At the time of his death, Mr. Ish-Kishor was vice-president of the Eastern life Insurance Company and secretary of the American Red Mogen Dovid.

Born in Russia, Ish-Kishor fled the pogroms that gripped that country in the early l89O’s and made his way to England where he became a co-founder of the Chovevei Zion (Lovers of Zion) movement. During his early years in the United States, he supported himself by teaching Hebrew. Later, he became one of the founders of the Order B’nai Zion. He served as a delete to the American Jewish Conference and as a member of the executive committee of the Zionist Organization of America.
