Situation in Bratislava Quiet Following Anti-jewish Riots; Jews Still Apprehensive

A report received here today from Bratislava says that there is still “considerable apprehension” among the Jews there, although the local authorities took immediate action against 41 Slovaks who participated in the two-day anti-Jewish outbreaks which took place during the week-end.

The report says that at present quiet prevails in the city. The Bratislava authorities promised the Jewish community leaders that the victims of the riots will be compensated for the damages they suffered. The 41 Slovaks who were found guilty of instigating the riots and, looting Jewish property were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. One of the Jewish hospitals in the city was damaged during the riots, the report reveals.
