Bernadotte’s Murder Rooted in British Betrayal, U.N. Inaction, Judge Rothenberg Says

The “dastardly” murder of U.N. mediator Count Folke Bernadotte had its origins in the British betrayal of promises to the Jews and the United Nations failure to discipline the Arab aggressors against Israel, Judge Morris Rothenberg, president of the Jewish National Fund, declared here tonight at a Zionist rally held under the auspices of the J.N.F. Council of Greater Now York. Three thousand persons attended the rally.

Judge Rothenberg, whose address was in the nature of “a report from Israel,” declared that neither the Jews nor Arabs of Palestine wanted war, but that the neighboring Arab states, incited by British imperial designs and armed by British war materiel were keeping the war going. Asserting that “Israel is growing in every direction,” Judge Rothenberg said: “The funds which American Jews have placed at the disposal of the Jewish community in Israel are an enormous factor in the rapid absorption of the home comers in the physical and spiritual life of the country.”
